The Evolution of the Electronic News Release

In 1965, Burke Van Valkenburg Sr. produced the first Audio News Releases in Canada. These were edited news clips for Federal Election campaigns sent via telephone to radio station news rooms around the country. In the 1970's Burke Sr. pioneered the first Video News Releases which became known as VNR's. Today VVC is producing Web News Releases "WNR's" which are Video Announcements and Edited Video Clips designed to be viewed on the web. This compelling format allows for greater reach and longevity for information, as well as the ability to provide topical video content for an organization's website.

50 Million Trees - Trees Ontario

VVC was a part of the team when a group of Girl Guides and the Minister of Natural Resources, Donna Cansfield, kicked off a weekend of tree planting as part of the "50 Million Trees" program.  The goal of the program is to plant 50 million trees across Southern Ontario by 2020.

This event was powered with "green" energy provided by Bullfrog Power.

2009 marked 10 straight years of VVC staging the press conferences for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). This year marked the first time that VVC webcast "Live" all 25 events including films featuring: George Clooney, Megan Fox, Matt Damon, Jennifer Garner, Nicolas Cage and many, many more. Interestingly, the greatest on-line audience was for the Oprah-produced movie "Precious" with over 38,000 requests to view the webcast. TIFF now enjoys a world wide audience for their press conferences, something that would have been unheard of only a few years ago.

On October 13, 2009 VVC staged Simcoe County's launch and rebrand of "Tourism Simcoe", an innovative event hosted at Horseshoe Resort in the Township of Oro-Medonte, which is just north of Barrie. The event showcased the seven local experiences for tourists and residents which are: Agriculture & Fine Dining, Shoreline Adventures, Spas & Romantic Getaways, Winter Playground, Cultural Places & Spaces, Trails & Trekking and Fabulous Golf. Ontario's Minister of Natural Resources, Donna Cansfield, joined Simcoe County's former Warden, Tony Guergis to unveil the new "look" for Simcoe Tourism (formerly Huronia Tourism) and to celebrate with the local tourism industry representatives.  New funding for trail development, enhancements and co-ordination was also announced.

Webcasting of news events is becoming an important part of any communications strategy. The Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) - who conduct the RBC Canadian Open and the CN Canadian Women's Open golf championships - has embraced the webcasting of player news conferences and course (weather) updates as part of its communications strategy for the events. The ability to quickly disseminate un-edited interviews and information so that news media, sponsors and the public can view it "on demand" is an important aspect of giving its key stakeholders timely access to relevant information.
